How can you become a Pilot?
Becoming a pilot is an experience that less than 1 person in 10 Lacs in India & less than 1 person in a 1 Lac on this planet ever knows… And becoming a professional pilot is just the beginning with THE SKYLINE AVIATION CLUB.
Organization
Under directives of "International Civil Aviation Organization" (ICAO) H.Q. Montreal, Canada, The Director General of Civil Aviation, (DGCA.) an Apex body under Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India is the highest authority in India, responsible for training and licensing of pilots. To encourage youngsters of our country, the Central Government provides subsidy in the payment of fees in respect of practical flight training for the initial 40 hours of the commercial pilot training through state owned flying clubs and subsidized private flying clubs.
Requirements
To start to learn flying one has to be of minimum 16 years of age and pass in 10th standard of High School and Class-II medical examination. However to end up in aviation as a professional pilot one should have minimum 18 years of age and pass in 12th standard with physics and mathematics as subjects and Class-I medical examination. There is no upper limit in age and qualification. One may be able to start without fulfilling minimum requirements of commercial pilot license but he/she should be in position to acquire necessary age and academic requirements before he / she completes Ground training as well as Flight training of 200 hours.
Procedure for Pilot Training
The entire pilot training course is divided into two parts, both having equalimportance viz.
(1) Theoretical (Ground) Training and
(2) Practical (Flight) Training.
The authority requires a candidate to pass a written examination in various Aeronautical / Technical subjects and a practical flight-test in both parts respectively. To fulfill the requirements of passing the written examination and flight test, the candidate is required to undergo training either in India or abroad.
In order to qualify as a professional pilot, a prospective candidate is required to undergo training in two parts as explained earlier in four different stagesand obtain four different pilot's licenses one after the other as follows:
1. Student Pilot's License (SPL) [Theory Course]
2. Flight Radio Telephone Operator Licence [Theory Course]
3. Private Pilot's License (PPL) [Theory Course + 40 hours of Practical Course]
4. Radio Telephony (Restricted) (Theory Course)
5. Commercial Pilot's License (CPL) [Theory Course + Total 200 hours of Practical Course].
The Skyline Aviation Club prepares prospective pilot candidates fully for written examinations (ground training) covering above all Licenses and arranges for practical flight training with affiliated Flight Training Institutes / Clubs in India or Abroad. A list of our affiliated Flight Training Institutes / Clubs in India and Abroad and complete list of all (44) Flight Training Institutes / Clubs operating under DGCA, Government of India is provided in this Prospectus. In order to become a pilot for hobby, pleasure, personality development or private use of aircraft, the candidate is required to undergo training as explained earlier and obtain only three licenses in series viz. (1) SPL, (2) FRTOL, (3) PPL.
Security Clearance from Local Police and State C.I.D.
As per the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India, Circular # AV-22026/3/91 Trg. (Vol. VII) dated 25/08/93, before a fresh student pilot is allowed to commence flight training in any of the Flying Clubs / Schools / Institutes in the country, he / she should have security cleared by the local
police and state CID. This is applicable for students who will be undergoing practical flight training in India. The Club will assist students completing Aviation Ground Training in this matter.
Air Crew Medical Requirement
Students applying for admission to Pilot's Training Course and registered for the course will be issued Government medical form and sent for Initial Class II medical examination for issue of SPL and PPL with local doctor (List of doctors is provided in this prospectus) as per the rules of DGCA, Government
of India. On passing such medical exam and subsequent interview and Pilot's Aptitude test, student will be selected for Pilot's Ground Training Course.
After Completion of Pilots Ground Training Course, students who will be undergoing Practical Flight Training in India are to obtain a physical fitness certificate of Class I for CPL from the Central Medical Establishment (CME), New Delhi or Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM), Bangalore. Students who
will be undergoing Practical Flight Training abroad are also required to obtain similar physical fitness certificates from the approved medical examiners by respective Governments of the countries. The Skyline Aviation Club will provide assistance for appointment for such medical examinations on request from students joining Pilot's Ground Training Course with The Skyline Aviation Club.
Life Insurance for Trainee Pilot
It is recommended that students joining Aviation Training Course should obtain Life Insurance Policy. The Skyline Aviation Club will arrange to complete the formality to obtain Life Insurance Policy covering aviation risks.
