Medical Standards Required for Commercial Pilot's Licence

Guidance on the medical requirements for Civil Flying Licenses for Medical examiner are contained in Government of India AIC No. 3/1982, Annexure No. 1 to the convention of ICAO 1982 and ICAO Manual for Civil Aviation Medicine DOC 8984-AN/895. It is not possible to give full details of the standards required. However, major requirements are given below for guidance.
General
The applicant:
1. Should not suffer from any disease/disability which could suddenly render him unable either to operate an aircraft safely/ to perform his assigned duties safely.
2. Should not have established medical history or clinical diagnosis of psychosis, alcoholism or drug dependence.
3. Should not have a history of diseases of the nervous system or epilepsy or serious head injury etc.
4. Should not have undergone major surgical operations which render him unfit for performing his duties.
Other Requirements :
Medical : ECG, Urine R/E, X-ray (chest - PA view), EEG, HB, TLC, DLC, ESR.
Clinical : Abdominal Examination, CVS, CNS, Chest, BP, Pulse.
All the above should be within normal limits.
ENT
1) Audiometry: Not more than 35 db Loss at any frequency (Check at 500, 1000, 2000. At 3000 and above not more than 50 db loss.)
2) Speech: To hear conversational voice at 6 ft. Distance.
EYE
1) The applicant shall be required to have a distant visual acuity of not less than 6/9 (20/30, 0.7) in each eye separately, with or without the use of correcting lenses. Where this standard of visual acuity can be obtained only with correcting lenses the applicant may be assessed as fit provided that:
a) the applicant possesses a visual acuity without correction in each eye separately, not
less than 6/60 (20/200, 0.1); or
b) the refractive error falls within the range of plus/minus 3 diopters (equivalent spherical error).
2) Colour Perception III defective. safe
3) Fundus examination normal.
4) Depth perception and field of vision normal.
